Bird with No Message (poem)
I wish to write you a letter,
To show you the pieces of my thoughts.
So you know everything you thought about me was wrong,
and all you heard was dust,
thrown over my soul
to give it a darker shade,
just so they could never see
what lived underneath.
I wish to send a bird to your home,
(one that could whisper my name into your ears,
reminding you of a presence,
a fragrance
you were once familiar with.
I wish to scatter flowers across your chest,
to soften the stone you keep on your heart.
I hope the darkness embraces you gently,
lets your eyes finally grow heavy,
lets you dream of a place
where you are free,
free from every expectation that chokes you,
from the voice that keeps whispering.
I wish.
And I pray on my knees to my Lord.
Yet no whispers reach your ears.
There is no ink left for me
to write you a letter.
I have no bird
to help you remember me.
You still stare at your ceiling,
afraid of the darkness,
afraid the stone inside you
will pull you under.
And I am still on my knees.
